Mr. Snail

I just found this guy hanging out on the side of my garden. Moving slowly, like I am today on this grey, rainy Wednesday.

Typography Tuesday: Ornamelle

Gorgeous. Pretty much all I have to say. Found a link to this on Super Swoon, and that's exactly what I'm doing!

More DIY lights

These ones come from Family Chic and are so adorable (AND EASY!) I just have to try them for our next BBQ or back yard party.

Pick up some great looking cupcake tin liners (these ones are from IKEA) and with an X-Acto knife, make a cross cut in the bottom.

Remove the bulb from your sting of lights, slip the liner on, and replace the bulb. IT'S THAT SIMPLE!

 Some tips:
  1. while the liners are meant for extreme heat, try not to have them directly touch the bulb OR use LED lights which don't give off any heat
  2. don't leave the lights on for long periods of time unattended
  3. these won't survive in the rain, so will have to come down

The Canada Post strike and your invitations

Canada Post is on strike. And if you are like any of the brides I'm working with right now, you are worried about your invitations - will they get out on time? will they get out at all? will it be too late?

The Wedding Co. posted some tips on their blog this morning on what you can do to try and salvage your invitation mailing.

  1. Be your own courier. Normally hand delivering a wedding invitation is a no-no, but if you don’t have the luxury of time (i.e., waiting a few weeks to see if the strike ends).
  2. Go online. Send an email to everyone with the details of your event so that they can start to prepare (especially if they have to book accommodations). Let them know the official invitation will follow soon.
  3. Head south. If you’re inviting guests from the U.S. or abroad, plan a little road trip. Take a nice drive down to the closest mailbox south of the border and your invitations will be sure to arrive on time. **NOTE: this will not help you with invitations that need to go to Canadian residents.
  4. Pick up the phone. For those guests you feel need a personal touch, you can always give them a call and leave a message or, better yet, engage in a lovely chat.
Hopefully this won't last long and business will be back to normal sooner rather than later. Keep checking the Canada Post website for up to date info.

I often get asked what all the different pieces involved in wedding stationery are, so I've put together a little glossary to help serve as a quick reference guide.
Engagement announcement: let’s your friends and family know that the question has been asked and that the answer was yes!
Save-the-date: let everyone know when the big day is going to be so they can make sure to mark it in their calendars. **Especially important if you are having a destination wedding and guests will have to book accommodations etc.
Bridal shower invitations: invites your friends and loved ones to celebrate your big day and upcoming nuptials.

Invitation: the who, the when, the where
RSVP: can they come? important to determine final number of
guests for food and booze - don’t want to come up short there!
Map/Directions card: to avoid the “how do we get there” emails and phone calls that you don’t have time for when preparing for your big day.
Additional information card: anything else guests should know - stuff to do in the area, if there is a “schedule of events” etc.

Program: itinerary to the day’s events and ceremony info
Menu: what’s for dinner? desert? to drink?
Escort cards: usually at the entrance to the reception and let
guests know which table they are sitting at.
Seating Chart: a diagram or list of tables that indicates where guests will be seated
Place Cards: where they sit at that table
Table Numbers: numbers, photos, sayings etc that identify which table is which
Favour Tags: personalize the small gifts and tokens of appreciation you are giving to your guests as they leave
Signage: use for directions, announcements or just fun notes
Decorations: paper can be used to decorate wedding days in many ways - from buntings, to flowers, to flags - the sky is the limit!

Thank-you Cards: thanks your guests for sharing in your day and for any gifts they may have given you (even if you plan on returning them!)

What do you think? Should anything else be added?

Typography Tuesday (on a Wednesday....oops)

I came across this font the other day and I'm really loving it. So much so, that I'm using it on a wedding invitation layout as we speak. I really hope the bride likes it as much as I do!

It's called Nelma and was designed by Missy Austin. You can find it here.

DIY doily light

How amazing is this light fixture? Imagine a bunch of them all over a wedding reception...totally swoon-worthy.

Best news is, it's DIY! I originally found it while I was procrastinating and spending way too much time on Pinterest, but it was posted there from a blog called More Design Please. I can't believe that it is as easy as a balloon, glue and doilies! I think I might make one for my office!

Here are the instructions (found on DOSFamily):
  1. Blow up a balloon the size you'd like your light to be (this one is from a party store) and hang it from a string
  2. Collect a bunch of doilies or small lace tablecloths
  3. Using a paintbrush, soak them with wallpaper glue
  4. Put the soaked doilies on the balloon making sure they are overlapping so they stick together
  5. Leave to dry (probably overnight)
  6. Pop the balloon
  7. Attach a nice looking cord and light fixture but cutting a small opening at the top. Once the light fixture is in place, you can sew up the opening if you so choose.

Country weddings + BHLDN

I spent this past weekend at the most gorgeous country DIY wedding, ever. I'm a total sucker for anything "country" and/or DIY (I just wish I had more time for the latter). The ceremony was in a barn, with beautiful handmade buntings, flower arrangements in glass bottles of all different shapes and sizes, and kettle chips in brown bags with a custom stamp of the barn on one side. Adorable. Yes.

On that note, I was just browsing the BHLDN site....again. The decorations are totally country and I totally love them.

Lots to celebrate and a long overdue lesson

It's been a big week for friends of greet's this week - a wedding, two babies, a new home, and another wedding this weekend. All of which means we get to send out some new cards and packages to those we love.

Congratulations to all of you on these major major milestones. We love you and can't wait to celebrate all of these amazing events with each of you.

On another unrelated topic, but also just as exciting - I'm getting a photography lesson this weekend so I'll actually be able to start taking DECENT pictures of our stationery! I CAN'T WAIT!

Happy pinning

I joined Pinterest last week. And I can't get enough. And the possibilities of what you can find are endless. Here are the first additions to my "Inspiration" board. I'm still trying to work out how to categorize everything so I can find it again. Since right now I only have two boards going, its pretty easy, but I'm envisioning having MANY more if I continue at this rate.

Happy weekend!

Obsessed with watercolour

Right now I'm obsessed with anything watercolour. Here are just a few things I've come across recently that I can't stop thinking about!
